Top Firms Lose Rs 1 Lakh Crore Amid Crude, Geopolitics

Imagine the biggest companies in India are like big piggy banks that people put money into.

Last week, five of the ten biggest piggy banks got lighter, losing more than Rs 1 lakh crore of value together.

The total value of all of a company's shares is called market capitalisation, and it changes when investors feel happy or worried.

Investors felt worried because oil prices were high, global peace felt less certain, and markets around the world were sending mixed signals.

The company called TCS lost the most value, followed by Reliance Industries and the State Bank of India.

But not everything went down - LIC and Bharti Airtel actually grew in value, which helped balance things out a little.

The Sensex and Nifty, which measure how the whole Indian market is doing, ended the week lower.

Even after losing money, Reliance Industries stayed India's most valuable company.

This shows that the value of big companies can go up or down every week depending on what is happening in the world.
