Trump Ends Parole Programs and TPS for Ethiopians
The US government has decided to end special programs that allowed some immigrants to reunite with their families in the US.
These programs were for people from Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, and Honduras.
The government says these programs were being misused.
At the same time, the government also ended a special legal status called Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for people from Ethiopia.
This status was given to Ethiopians in the US because of problems in their home country.
The government says that Ethiopia is now safe enough, so the status is no longer needed.
This decision was made by the Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem.
People from these countries who were protected by these programs will no longer have this special protection.
The announcement was made on December 12, 2023.
