Kashmir drug addiction triples in three years
In Kashmir, the number of people addicted to drugs has tripled in the last three years.
This is a big problem, especially among young people in schools and colleges.
The government says they are trying to stop this by arresting drug traffickers and running campaigns to help people quit drugs.
They are also working with religious leaders to spread awareness.
Even though the government says they are making progress, many people are still getting addicted, especially to heroin.
This is similar to what happened in Punjab, where drug addiction became a very big problem.
Drug addiction in Kashmir has tripled in the last three years.
13.5 lakh people, or 10% of the population, are addicted to drugs in Jammu and Kashmir.
5 lakh of these addicts use opioids, with heroin consumption rising among youths.
The government has arrested around 10,000 individuals under the NDPS Act between 2018 and 2022.
A massive drug de-addiction campaign is underway, with the chief secretary monitoring it.
