Gauhati High Court rejects 35-year-old plea
A man named Arab Ali went to the Gauhati High Court to challenge a decision made in 1990.
The decision said that he and his family were illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
The court said that the man waited too long to challenge the decision and that he and his family did not get any notice about the original hearing.
The court said that the authorities can now take action against them as per the law.
The Gauhati High Court dismissed a 35-year-old plea by Arab Ali challenging an ex parte order from the Illegal Migrants (Determination) Tribunal (IMDT).
The IMDT order in 1990 declared Arab Ali and six of his family members as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
The High Court cited a huge delay in filing the petition and the lack of notice received by the petitioner and his family members.
The court directed the authorities to take action against the petitioner and his family members as per the law.
The bench consisted of Justices Kalyan Rai Surana and Anjan Moni Kalita.
