Nepal Tunnel Survivor Alleges Chinese Supervisor Fled During Flood

Nepal Tunnel Survivor Alleges Chinese Supervisor Fled During Flood

A sudden flood sent water, mud and rocks into a hydropower tunnel in Nepal.

About 265 people were reportedly working there.

Raj Chhetri says workers heard a frightening noise and asked a Chinese supervisor if they could leave.

He alleges the supervisor said he would check and then ran away.

Chhetri escaped with three other people, but says two members of their group are still missing.

He also says some workers may have been alive inside and calling for help.

At least 40 people are still unaccounted for at this hydropower project.

Around 900 workers are missing from several projects affected by the floods, with about 500 believed to be inside tunnels.

Nepalese, Indian and other rescue teams are searching, but the allegations about the supervisor have not been independently confirmed.
