Mumbai Land Approved for Rs 600 Crore Biogas Plants
The government is letting a company called MGL build two biogas plants in Deonar, Mumbai.
These plants will turn 1,000 tons of food and other wet waste each day into energy.
The project will cost over Rs 600 crore and is part of a larger plan by the central government to create biogas projects in cities.
MGL will pay a low rent for the land and is expected to earn around Rs 74 crore each year from selling the biogas.
The BMC will provide the wet waste for free and will benefit from the project.
The state government approved handing over 18 acres of land in Deonar to MGL.
MGL will build biogas plants that will process 1,000 tons of wet waste daily.
The project cost is estimated to exceed Rs 600 crore.
The biogas produced can be used as auto fuel, with MGL expected to earn Rs 74 crore annually.
The land will be leased to MGL for a nominal fee for 20 years, with a possible 5-year extension.
