PM Modi Pays Tribute to Quit India Movement Heroes
A very long time ago, India was ruled by Britain, a country far away.
In 1942, a famous leader named Mahatma Gandhi and many other people started a big movement called the Quit India Movement.
They wanted the British to leave India so that Indians could be free.
Gandhi gave the people a powerful message: 'Do or Die,' which meant they had to be brave and ready to give everything for freedom.
Many brave men and women joined peaceful protests to show they wanted freedom.
Some freedom fighters were arrested and sent to jail for taking part.
Every year on August 9, people remember this day as August Kranti Day.
Recently, India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and other leaders remembered these heroes and said their courage still inspires all Indians.
Because of the brave efforts of these freedom fighters, India finally became free in 1947.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute on X to Mahatma Gandhi and participants of the Quit India Movement, saying their courage will always remain an inspiration for every Indian.
Modi said the movement, inspired by Gandhi's leadership, 'infused new energy into our freedom struggle' and reflected the people's unwavering determination to break free from colonial rule.
The Quit India Movement, also known as 'Bharat Chodo Andolan', was launched by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress in 1942 during World War II demanding an end to British rule; most articles cite August 9, 1942, while one reports the resolution was adopted by the All India Congress Committee on August 8, 1942, in Bombay.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid homage, recalling the 'Do or Die' call and the freedom fighters' sacrifice.
The movement began at Gawalia Tank in Mumbai, is observed annually as August Kranti Day, and India attained independence in 1947.
