Bajaj Finserv net profit up 18%; entering reinsurance business
Bajaj Finserv is a big Indian company that does many kinds of financial services.
In the last three months of the year, it made more money than before, with a profit that went up by 18%.
Most of the extra money came from its lending arm, which gave out more loans and had fewer bad loans.
The company also said it will start a new business that helps other insurance companies by sharing risk, called reinsurance.
However, its insurance parts did not do as well, losing money because of more claims and lower investment gains.
Bajaj Finserv's consolidated net profit rose 18% YoY to Rs 6,297 crore in the June quarter.
Total income increased 19% to Rs 42,037 crore, largely driven by lending subsidiary Bajaj Finance.
The company announced entry into reinsurance via a new subsidiary and plans to launch alternative asset classes.
Bajaj General Insurance and Bajaj Life Insurance posted profit declines of 27.5% and 70.2% respectively.
New business growth in Bajaj Life Insurance surged 87%, but emerging businesses incurred a Rs 130 crore loss.
