Uttarakhand Waqf Board Plans Housing for Talaq Victims
The Uttarakhand Waqf Board wants to give free homes to some Muslim women who have lost their homes after divorce.
These women may have been affected by triple talaq or nikah halala.
Triple talaq refers to an instant divorce practice.
Nikah halala involves a woman marrying another person before she can remarry her former husband.
The board says some women do not receive enough money after divorce to support themselves.
Some also cannot get help from their parents or relatives.
The board’s chairman said the proposal has received approval from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The proposal still needs to be considered at a formal board meeting.
If approved, the housing would be provided through Waqf Board properties.
The Uttarakhand Waqf Board has drafted a proposal to provide free housing to homeless women affected by triple talaq and nikah halala.
Board Chairman Shadab Shams said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved the proposal in principle.
The proposal is expected to be presented at a board meeting scheduled for the end of the month or the beginning of the next.
Shams said some divorced women receive very small mehar payments and may lack family support or a place to live.
