US Escalates Iran Economic Pressure as Hormuz Crisis Deepens

The United States is putting stronger economic pressure on Iran.

American officials say they want to cut off Iran’s access to money and trade.

Iran has warned that it could disrupt oil exports from the Gulf if the pressure continues.

Iranian lawmakers also support charging some ships that pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

President Donald Trump says the strait is still open, but fewer ships are confirmed to be crossing it.

A vessel near Oman was damaged, and one crew member was reportedly killed.

Other reports describe attacks or threatened attacks involving Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Israel has also carried out deadly strikes in Gaza.

Meanwhile, diplomats are trying to reduce tensions involving shipping and Syria-Israel relations.
