A building used as a student hostel collapsed near Delhi University.

Seven people died, and rescuers pulled 12 people from the rubble.

The building fell while repair work was happening.

Manoj Jha, a university professor and member of Parliament, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said many students cannot get official university housing.

As a result, they often rent rooms in older buildings that may be unsafe.

Jha asked the government to build more public hostels.

He also called for an investigation into what caused the collapse and better protection for students.
