BJP Win In Nagaon Will Point To Sweeping Victory In 2031: Himanta Sarma · NDTV

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma believes the BJP is becoming more popular in Nagaon.

Nagaon has not usually been a strong area for the BJP.

He said the party’s support has grown during the last month of campaigning.

He also said many people have joined the BJP.

According to Sarma, winning Nagaon could show that the BJP is strong enough to win all 126 Assembly seats in Assam in 2031.

Several ministers and an MLA are campaigning for the party there.

Sarma has not yet visited Nagaon himself.

He said the election results will ultimately show whether the BJP’s support has really increased.

Quotes

Himanta Biswa Sarma

Chief Minister of Assam

“The present Nagaon constituency comprises Morigaon, Jagiroad, Raha and Nagaon. If we consider the panchayat-level results of the last assembly election, we won all these constituencies. But in Samaguri, Dhing, Rupohihat and Lahorighat - we lost by around 1.5 lakh votes in each constituency. Therefore, this is not a traditional BJP seat.”

“Let the election results come; only then will we know. But the atmosphere has been improving over the past month.”
