GeM to Introduce Global Tenders, Expand Market Access
GeM, the online platform for government purchases, is adding a new feature that will allow companies from countries India has trade deals with to bid on government contracts.
This is happening because India is making agreements with other countries, like the UK.
The UK deal opens a large market for Indian businesses, and the new GeM feature will make it easier for them to participate.
GeM has already handled a lot of transactions, and it's working to get more states involved.
GeM will introduce a global tender feature by the end of the fiscal year.
The new feature is relevant due to ongoing trade agreement negotiations.
India has opened government procurement to the UK through CETA.
CETA opens a $122 billion market for Indian companies.
GeM facilitated Rs 1.41 lakh crore in transactions in 2025-26 (until July).
