Bangladesh MP Resigns After Demolition of Charitable Healthcare Centre

Bangladesh lawmaker Ferdousy Ahmed Mishti resigned from Parliament.

Her resignation followed accusations that she was involved in destroying a healthcare centre.

The centre had helped poor mothers and children for more than 50 years.

The building was demolished during a nighttime attack in Mirpur.

A group claiming to represent shop owners put up a banner at the site.

Mishti had denied responsibility, but the home minister said her name appeared in an intelligence report.

Doctors and workers continued offering limited services outside the damaged building.

The government also announced stronger efforts to fight crime, while police said reports of rising crime were exaggerated.
