China Warns US Retaliation Over Iran Sanctions Expansion

China Warns US Retaliation Over Iran Sanctions Expansion

The United States has added new sanctions against Iran and some groups that trade with Iran.

Sanctions are penalties meant to make it harder for a country to do business.

China says the US is unfairly punishing companies and has warned it may respond.

China also says the sanctions do not have approval from the United Nations Security Council.

The US says the sanctions are designed to cut off Iran’s money and important supplies.

The new measures affect areas such as shipping, aviation, technology, gold and digital assets.

China buys much of Iran’s oil, so Chinese companies could be affected by future penalties.

More US action against Chinese banks could make relations between the two countries worse.

Iran’s economy minister said Iran expected the sanctions and predicted they would fail.
