Pakistan warns India on water rights under Indus treaty

Pakistan warns India on water rights under Indus treaty

India and Pakistan have a treaty called the Indus Waters Treaty, which was made in 1960 with the help of the World Bank.

This treaty helps both countries share the water from the Indus River and its smaller rivers.

Recently, India approved a big project to build a power plant called Dulhasti Stage-II on the Chenab River.

Pakistan is worried because India did not tell them about this project beforehand.

Pakistan says that according to the treaty, India cannot build such projects without sharing information and following certain rules.

Pakistan also says that the treaty is very important and they will not give up their rights to the water.

India had earlier put the treaty on hold after a terrorist attack, but Pakistan still considers it valid.
