Nepal Flood Exposes Persistent Risks Along Border River

Nepal Flood Exposes Persistent Risks Along Border River

A very large flash flood hit Nepal near its border with Tibet on Wednesday.

Water rushed down the Bhote Koshi River and damaged towns, roads, hydropower plants, and other buildings.

Officials warned people living near the river to move to safer places.

This river had already caused a deadly flood in July 2025.

Experts think ice and debris may have blocked a smaller river before suddenly releasing a huge amount of water.

An earthquake also happened nearby, but the exact cause is still being studied.

Some people wondered whether dams in Tibet were involved, but no government has confirmed that.

The event has led to concerns that Nepal needs better warnings and more information-sharing with China.
