SC Issues Guidelines to Curb Student Suicides, Citing Systemic Failure
The Supreme Court is very worried about students taking their own lives, seeing this as a big problem.
They looked at data that shows more students are doing this.
Because of this, the Court made new rules for schools and colleges.
These rules say schools should have enough counselors, train staff to help, and tell students where to get help if they are struggling.
The government has to report back to the court on how they will make these changes and provide more support during exams and create safe spaces for students.
Supreme Court cited rising student suicides as a "systemic failure".
The court issued 15 guidelines for educational institutions across India.
Guidelines include student-to-counselor ratio mandates and staff training.
Institutions must establish referral protocols for mental health services.
The Centre must file a compliance affidavit within 90 days.
