Ex-Bangladesh General Claims India's Breakup Needed for Peace
A retired Bangladeshi army general named Abdullahil Amaan Azmi said that Bangladesh will not have peace until India breaks apart.
He made this statement at an event in Dhaka.
He also accused India of causing trouble in a region called the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
India's government is upset about these comments.
Azmi's father was a leader in a political party called Jamaat-e-Islami, which is known for opposing Bangladesh's independence.
Some people in India think these comments show a dangerous way of thinking.
Bangladesh will not see peace until India breaks into pieces, claims ex-general Abdullahil Amaan Azmi.
Azmi accused India of keeping Bangladesh unstable and supporting militant groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
He criticized the 1997 Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord, saying the disarmament of militant groups was 'only for show'.
Indian defense analyst Colonel Mayank Chaubey warned that such statements reflect a dangerous ideology.
The resurgence of Jamaat-e-Islami, a political party with a controversial past, is a concern for India.
