Kerala Court Reduces ISIS Militant's Sentence to 10 Years
A man named Subahani Haja was part of a group that joined the Islamic State in Iraq.
He was originally given a life sentence by a court.
However, the Kerala High Court decided to reduce his sentence to 10 years.
The court considered that Haja was not very old, seemed sorry for what he did, and hadn't caused any further trouble since returning.
He had tried to get materials for explosives after coming back.
The NIA, a group that investigates crimes, had said he was part of a group planning attacks in India.
Now, since he has been in jail since 2016, he will be released in about a year.
Kerala High Court reduced the life sentence of Subahani Haja, an Islamic State militant, to 10 years.
Haja was convicted of joining ISIS in 2015 and migrating to Iraq.
The court cited mitigating circumstances, including Haja's age and repentance.
Haja was injured in Iraq and returned to India, where he was later arrested.
