Tesla UK Sales Drop 29% in December
Tesla, the electric car company led by Elon Musk, sold fewer cars in the UK in December 2025 compared to the previous year.
Their sales dropped by almost 30%.
Meanwhile, a Chinese company called BYD sold almost five times more cars in the UK in the same month.
Tesla is still the top-selling electric car brand in the UK, but BYD is catching up.
In 2025, the overall number of new cars sold in the UK increased by 3.5%, reaching 2 million.
Two Chinese car brands, MG and BYD, were among the top 10 best-selling car brands in the UK in December.
Tesla also saw a decrease in sales in the Netherlands.
The decrease in Tesla's sales is due to competition from Chinese brands, their older car models, and Elon Musk's political views in Europe.
Tesla's UK car registrations dropped 29% year-on-year in December 2025 to 6,323 units.
Tesla's 2025 UK sales fell 8.9% year-on-year.
BYD's UK registrations jumped nearly fivefold to 5,194 units in December 2025.
Tesla remained the best-selling electric car brand in Britain despite BYD's gains.
UK new car registrations grew 3.5% in 2025 to 2 million, the first time since the pandemic.
