IMH Food Poisoning: Death, Contract Termination, and Investigation
At a mental health hospital, many patients got sick after eating food.
Sadly, one person died.
Officials think the problem might be a sweet dessert served with a meal.
They are testing the food and water to find out exactly what made people sick.
Because of this, the hospital changed the company that provides the food and moved a doctor to a new job.
The hospital is also looking at whether the water supply was clean and if the hospital itself was kept clean enough.
Food poisoning at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) resulted in one death and 92 illnesses.
The RMO was transferred, and the diet contract with G Jaipal Reddy was terminated due to the incident.
Officials initially attributed the death to cardiac arrest but later confirmed acute gastroenteritis as the cause.
A sweet item served on State Formation Day is suspected as the primary cause, but lab results are pending.
Water contamination is also being investigated, as are hygiene lapses in the hospital's IHFMS system.
