UP Court Adjourns Akhlaq Lynching Case to January 8
A man named Mohammad Akhlaq was killed by a mob in 2015 because of rumors that he had killed a cow and stored beef in his home.
The court in Uttar Pradesh was supposed to hear the case every day starting January 6, but it had to be postponed to January 8 because an important witness couldn't come to court.
The witness's family member had passed away, so they couldn't be there.
The court has asked the police to make sure the witness is safe when they do come to court.
There are 14 people accused in the case, and they are all out on bail.
The court has said that the case is very serious and needs to be fully tried.
The Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case was adjourned to January 8, 2024, due to the absence of a key prosecution witness.
The witness could not attend the hearing because a family member had passed away.
The Surajpur court had earlier rejected the Uttar Pradesh government's plea to withdraw charges against the accused.
The court directed daily hearings and ensured the security of witnesses for the upcoming dates.
