Uber Cuts 3,300 Jobs While Preparing for Robotaxis

Uber is removing about 3,300 jobs around the world.

This is about one-tenth of its workforce and its biggest set of layoffs since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uber says it grew quickly and became too complicated to manage.

The company wants fewer managers, fewer tiny teams and faster decisions.

It says artificial intelligence is not the official reason for these layoffs.

Uber is also asking most employees to work from an office at least three days a week.

At the same time, Uber is preparing for robotaxis, which are cars that can carry passengers without a human driver.

It plans to spend more than $10 billion on this future and related partnerships.

Companies such as Waymo and Tesla are also competing in autonomous transportation.
