Madras HC Bans Living Leaders' Names in TN Schemes
The Madras High Court in Tamil Nadu has said the government can't put living people's names in ads for welfare programs.
This happened because a politician complained.
The court said it's okay to have these programs, but they can't use living politicians' names or pictures, or any party symbols in the ads.
The court made this decision based on previous rules from the Supreme Court about what can be in government ads.
Madras High Court ruled against using living personalities in Tamil Nadu scheme advertisements.
The court's interim order came in response to a petition filed by AIADMK MP C.Ve. Shanmugam.
The court clarified it has no issue with welfare schemes, just the content of their ads.
The bench cited Supreme Court directives regulating the content of government ads.
The court will revisit the case, with the next hearing scheduled for August 13.
