Tripura Constructs Check Dams to Enhance Water Security
Tripura is building small dams called check dams with help from Germany.
These dams are made of earth and are designed to manage water better.
They help stop the soil from washing away, make it easier to water crops, and provide water for animals and people.
The project also supports fish farming by providing fish and training to local communities.
They have already built many dams, but still plan to build more.
The goal is to improve the environment and help people living in the forests.
The state produces a lot of fish but still needs more to meet the demand.
The Tripura government has constructed 443 earthen check dams in Dhalai and North Tripura districts.
The project is part of the Indo-German Development Cooperation (IGDC) initiative.
The check dams are aimed at regulating water flow and reducing soil erosion.
The initiative supports fisheries and enhances irrigation for agricultural fields.
The project includes capacity-building and skill development programs on fisheries.
