Gujarat Fair Price Shop Owners Strike Continues Amid Government Claims
Shop owners who give out essential food items in Gujarat are on strike because they want more money.
They are asking for their guaranteed monthly payment to go up from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000.
They also have 19 other requests.
The government says they have agreed to 11 of these requests and have told local officials to be helpful.
The government also claims that some shop owners in certain cities have started getting the food ready to give out, and more will start soon.
But the head of the shop owners' group says the government is not telling the truth and that the strike is still happening.
He points out that local officials were meeting with owners to try and get them to start work, which wouldn't be necessary if they were already doing it.
So, the shops are still mostly closed.
Gujarat fair price shop owners continue their indefinite strike, initiated on November 1.
The association presented 20 demands, including increasing the guaranteed monthly commission from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000.
The Gujarat government stated that shop owners in Surat, Anand, Vadodara, and Rajkot have begun generating challans for grain distribution.
The government claims 11 out of 20 demands have been accepted and others are being processed.
The association president, Prahlad Modi, refutes the government's claims, stating the strike is ongoing and the government's statements are 'far from truth'.
