Greater Noida to replace old pipes after water contamination
In a place called Delta 1 Sector in Greater Noida, many people got sick because the water they drank was mixed with dirty water from the sewers.
This happened because the old pipes that carry water were broken and let the dirty water in.
The people who take care of the water system said they will replace these old pipes with new plastic ones to stop this from happening again.
Some people who live there said they have been telling the water authorities about this problem for many years, but it has not been fixed properly.
The authorities said they did not get any formal complaints, but they are now checking the water in many places to make sure it is clean.
Doctors said drinking this dirty water can make people very sick, and they suggested using special tablets to keep the water clean.
At least 30 residents of Delta 1 Sector in Greater Noida fell ill due to water contamination with sewage.
The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) will replace old galvanised iron pipes with plastic ones.
Residents reported muddy, yellow water with a foul smell, causing stomach aches and vomiting.
GNIDA inspected water samples from over 80 locations across 18 sectors, including Delta 1, 2, and 3.
Residents alleged recurring water contamination issues, with over 100 complaints submitted to GNIDA in the last eight years.
