Government Launches Edible Oils Mission to Boost Production
The Indian government has started a big plan called the National Mission on Edible Oils.
This plan wants to make more cooking oil in India so that the country doesn't have to buy so much from other countries.
Right now, India buys a lot of cooking oil from other places, but the government wants to change that.
They are giving farmers better seeds, helping them set up oil-making machines, and teaching them how to grow more oilseeds like soybeans, mustard, and groundnuts.
The goal is to make a lot more cooking oil in India by 2032, so that people can have enough to cook with and the country doesn't have to rely so much on other countries.
The government has launched the National Mission on Edible Oils to boost domestic production and reduce import dependence.
The mission aims to reduce import dependence from 57% to 28% by 2032.
New seed varieties of soybean, mustard, sunflower, and groundnut have been introduced in over 1.1 million hectares for the 2025-26 crop season.
1076 value chain clusters have been identified in 500 districts to boost oilseed production and processing.
The mission aims to increase oilseed production from 39 million tonne to 69.7 million tonne by 2030-31 and edible oil production from 12.51 million tonne to 20.18 million tonne by 2031-32.
