Congress Condemns Detention, Alleged Torture of Punjab Black-Flag Protester

A young man named Mohanjit Singh Sidhu waved a black flag at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s convoy.

He was then detained by police.

Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring says the young man was badly treated in custody.

Warring alleges that police used electric shocks and gave Sidhu drugs by force.

He also says police later tested Sidhu for drugs and registered a case against him.

The police case says Sidhu allegedly consumed drugs, but the article does not include a police response to the torture allegations.

Warring has asked the National Human Rights Commission to investigate.

Congress says it will hold a protest against the Punjab government on September 8.
