Russia Banned from 2026 Olympics Hockey
Russia won't be playing hockey in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
This is because of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) made this decision, meaning top Russian players in the NHL won't be able to compete for their country in the Olympics.
While they can still play in the NHL, the Olympic stage is off-limits.
This impacts both players and fans who were hoping to see their favorite players represent Russia.
Russia and Belarus are ineligible for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The IIHF made the announcement during its annual congress in Stockholm.
The ban includes all IIHF-sanctioned events through the 2025–26 season, including the Milan Games.
Russian NHL players can still play for their teams.
Over 50 Russian players were active in the NHL last season.
