KMRC Seals East-West Metro Tunnel Shafts at Esplanade Station
The Kolkata Metro is finishing up the Esplanade-Sealdah section, which connects Sector V to Howrah Maidan.
Workers are now sealing the openings to the underground tunnels.
These openings, or shafts, were used to launch giant machines that dug the tunnels.
The sealing process involves putting concrete covers over the openings to make sure everything is safe.
This step is important to prevent accidents and allows the third rail to be laid safely.
The construction of the under-river metro was inaugurated last year, and this section is expected to be done by July.
KMRC has started sealing the openings to the East-West Metro tunnels.
The 98-feet deep shafts are at Esplanade metro station.
The shafts were used to launch tunnel boring machines in 2019.
Contractors took risks to expedite construction.
The Esplanade-Sealdah section is nearing completion.
