11 Injured, 3 Critical in Firing on Assam-Arunachal Border
Two neighboring regions called Assam and Arunachal Pradesh share a long border.
The two sides disagree about who owns some land near this border.
Recently, there was shooting along the border.
Eleven people were hurt, and three of them are hurt very seriously.
Hospitals are taking care of the injured people.
The shooting happened on August 10, in an area called the Dhemaji-Lower Siang belt.
This is not a new problem — there have been fights over land there before.
In June 2023, two people from Assam were killed and two more were hurt in a similar shooting.
About a year before that, a land dispute in a place called Panbari also caused tension.
Police are still checking exactly how many people were hurt.
A firing along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border left 11 people injured, with three in critical condition.
The incident follows recurring land disputes and violent flare-ups between the two states.
Tensions have been concentrated in the Dhemaji-Lower Siang belt, including the disputed Panbari-Torajan area.
In June 2023, two Assam residents were killed and two others injured in firing in Panbari-Torajan.
A land encroachment dispute in Panbari a year earlier had also triggered tensions, and early reports on the August 10 casualty count have differed.
