Asansol Man Gets Heart Clip Instead of Surgery
A 60-year-old man from Asansol had a problem with his heart's mitral valve, which was leaking and making it hard for his heart to pump blood.
Normally, doctors would fix this by doing a big surgery to replace the valve, but this man had other health problems that made that too risky.
So, instead, doctors at Manipal Hospital used a special clip to fix the leak.
This clip works like a stitch to close the leak and help the heart work better.
The clip used was made in India, which made it much cheaper than the ones made in other countries.
The whole procedure cost about ₹30 lakh, but the family, the hospital, and some charities helped pay for it.
Now, the man is feeling much better and living a normal life.
A 60-year-old man from Asansol underwent a TEER procedure to implant a heart clip to fix a mitral valve leak.
The patient could not undergo conventional open-heart surgery due to comorbidities, including dilated cardiomyopathy.
The clip performs the function of a stitch to reduce the leak in the mitral valve.
Indigenous clips were used, which are half the cost of foreign-made ones, and the cost was further reduced by 50% for this patient.
The entire procedure cost around ₹30 lakh, with the cost shared between the family, Manipal Foundation, and NGOs.
