Parliamentary Panel Summons CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The Joint Parliamentary Committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’ has called the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, to a meeting on December 4.
This is a big deal because it's the first time a parliamentary committee has asked the Chief Election Commissioner to come and talk.
The committee wants to discuss how elections should be held all at once in India.
They've been talking to experts for months and are now focusing on how much power the election commission should have.
Other important officials will also be there to share their thoughts.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’ has summoned Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for December 4.
This is the first instance of a parliamentary committee calling a Chief Election Commissioner since August 25, 1965.
The committee has been discussing the proposal with various experts and is now focusing on the extent of authority for the election commission.
Other senior officials of the Election Commission and members of the 23rd Law Commission will also present their statements on the same day.
The committee comprises 39 members, with 27 from the Lok Sabha and 12 from the Rajya Sabha, chaired by former Law Minister P. P. Choudhury.
