India's Kharif Crop Sowing Rises, Boosting Production Prospects
India's farmers are planting more of the main summer crops, like rice, oilseeds, pulses, and sugarcane, this year.
This is happening because the monsoon rains have been good, and there's plenty of water in reservoirs to water the plants.
Some harvesting has already started, and farmers are beginning to plant for the winter crops.
The government is also giving a big subsidy for fertilizers, which helps farmers grow more food.
Crops like onions, potatoes, and tomatoes are doing well, and the country has enough rice and wheat stored.
With these good conditions, more food is expected to be produced.
The government is also working with states to encourage farmers to plant even more pulses and oilseeds in the coming season.
Area sown under major kharif crops like paddy, oilseeds, pulses, and sugarcane has increased due to a favorable monsoon.
High water levels in 161 major reservoirs, 104.30% of last year's level, ensure adequate irrigation for crops.
Harvesting of kharif crops has begun, covering approximately 27% of the total area, while rabi sowing has commenced.
The condition of onion, potato, and tomato crops is satisfactory, with sufficient rice and wheat stocks.
A Rs 38,000 crore fertilizer subsidy has been approved by the Cabinet to boost farm production.
