UP Bars Aadhaar as Birth Proof
The Uttar Pradesh government has said that Aadhaar cards can no longer be used to prove someone's date of birth.
This is because the UIDAI, which issues Aadhaar cards, has said that the birth dates on these cards are not checked.
The government has told all its departments to stop accepting Aadhaar for this purpose and to only use official birth certificates instead.
This new rule is now being followed everywhere in Uttar Pradesh.
UP government issued a directive barring the use of Aadhaar as proof of date of birth.
UIDAI clarified that the date of birth on Aadhaar is not verified.
The directive was issued following a communication from UIDAI's Lucknow office.
Departments were instructed to stop accepting Aadhaar as birth-date proof.
Only officially designated birth documents, like birth certificates, are valid for official purposes.
