PT Usha urges domestic anti-doping kit production
PT Usha, who is a member of the Rajya Sabha and the President of the Indian Olympic Association, spoke in the Upper House about a big problem in sports.
She said that doping, which is when athletes use banned substances to cheat, is a big threat to fair play and the health of athletes.
Right now, India has to import most of the high-quality anti-doping kits from foreign companies, which is expensive and causes delays.
Usha suggested that India should start making these kits locally under the Make in India initiative.
This would make the country self-reliant, create jobs, and help in the fight against doping.
She also asked the government to support Indian scientists and startups to develop better doping detection technology and to strengthen the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
Usha believes that protecting the purity of sports is a national responsibility and urged the government to take concrete steps in this direction.
The government has already committed to expanding anti-doping measures and increasing testing capacity, planning 7751 dope control tests in the current year.
PT Usha urged the government to support domestic production of anti-doping testing kits under the Make in India initiative.
She emphasized the need to reduce dependency on imported anti-doping kits to lower costs and speed up testing.
Usha proposed that indigenous production would generate employment and promote innovation in doping detection technology.
She requested government support for Indian scientific institutions and startups to innovate in this field.
Usha also called for strengthening the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and regional testing laboratories.
