South Korea to Launch 24-Hour Won Trading to Boost Market Access
South Korea is making it easier for international investors to trade the Korean Won currency.
Starting next year, the Won will be traded 24 hours a day, and restrictions on non-resident trading will be loosened.
This is part of a plan to get into a major global stock index called the MSCI Developed Markets Index.
The government hopes these changes will attract more investors and make the market more open.
Currently, trading hours have already been extended.
The goal is to make investing in South Korea similar to investing in other advanced economies and increase the global use of the Won.
This also involves improving corporate governance and transparency to attract more investors.
South Korea plans to allow 24-hour trading of the Won currency next year.
The government will also ease restrictions on Won trading for non-residents.
These measures aim to improve market access for global investors and increase transparency.
The initiatives are part of a broader effort to enter the MSCI Developed Markets Index.
The Bank of Korea is also building a 24-hour Won payment settlement system.
