Meta India Head Faces FIR Over Modi AI Misinformation
A police team in Hyderabad started a legal case against the head of Meta India, Arun Shrinivas, because some fake videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were shared on Facebook and Instagram.
These videos were made with AI and looked like the PM but were not real.
The police want to know if this broke Indian laws and if Meta did enough to stop the videos.
Meta said it has rules to catch fake posts and apologized for briefly removing a PM video.
The investigation is still in the early stages, so no decisions have been made yet.
Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police registered an FIR against Meta India head Arun Shrinivas over AI‑generated videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The case involves alleged spread of misleading, derogatory, and obscene morphed content on Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
Police are investigating whether the videos violated the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act and whether Meta’s safeguards were adequate.
Meta representatives have appeared before investigators to explain their content‑moderation measures and have apologized for a brief removal of a Modi selfie video.
The probe remains in preliminary stages, with no conclusions reached and further action pending digital evidence.
