Denmark Ends 400-Year Postal Tradition

Denmark Ends 400-Year Postal Tradition

Denmark has stopped delivering letters after more than 400 years.

This is because most people now use emails, messages, and online services instead of physical letters.

The postal service, PostNord, delivered over 90% fewer letters in 2024 compared to 2000.

They have taken down many red mailboxes, but people can still drop off letters at shops.

A private company will handle the deliveries now.

Many Danes felt sad about the change and tried to buy the old mailboxes for charity.

Denmark is very advanced with digital services, so physical letters are no longer as important.
