SC to Scrutinize ED Powers in PMLA Case
The Supreme Court is looking closely at a law about money laundering, called PMLA.
This law gives the ED, the group that investigates money crimes, a lot of power.
A former leader and his son don't like some of these powers and are asking the court to change them.
They argue that the ED can investigate too long, ask people to come in for questioning repeatedly, and threaten penalties.
The court has decided to look into these issues, but the specific case involving the former leader and his son will have to be handled by a different court.
Supreme Court is examining key provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Bhupesh Baghel and his son are challenging sections of the PMLA.
The Supreme Court is reviewing the powers of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal argues certain PMLA sections are unconstitutional.
The Court refused to address the Baghel's individual cases, directing them to the High Court.
