Chandigarh court denies advocate bail in Rs 10.77 lakh case
A lawyer in India is accused of doing something very wrong.
A woman and her sister gave the lawyer a lot of money — more than ten lakh rupees.
They gave him the money because he promised to help get a man out of jail.
The lawyer showed them a paper that looked like a court order, but the paper did not have the official stamp on it.
So the police arrested the lawyer and put him in jail.
The lawyer asked the judge to let him out on bail while his case is going on.
But the judge said no.
The judge was worried the lawyer might try to hide evidence or scare people who saw what happened.
The lawyer even offered to give back some of the money, but the judge said that was not enough.
So the lawyer has to stay in jail until the case is finished.
A Chandigarh court on August 3 dismissed the bail plea of an advocate accused of taking Rs 10.77 lakh to secure bail for a jailed man.
The accused allegedly took Rs 5.77 lakh via online transactions and Rs 5 lakh in cash from Pushpinder Bagga and her sister Jaspreet Kaur.
The court cited fair chances of the accused tampering with evidence and influencing prosecution witnesses as grounds for denial.
The court rejected the offer to deposit back Rs 5.77 lakh, noting the alleged total amount involved was Rs 10.77 lakh.
Baljit Singh, for whom bail was allegedly promised, has been in Burail Jail since 2024 in a case under UAPA and the Arms Act.
