Trump Expects Iran Talks Despite Rejecting Tehran’s War Proposal

The United States and Iran may hold more talks this week.

President Donald Trump said he expects indirect discussions, even though he rejected Iran’s latest proposal.

Iran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart nuclear talks if the United States lifted its naval blockade, removed some oil-sale sanctions and restored a ceasefire.

Trump said Iran’s proposal was not the agreement he wanted.

Iran’s foreign minister said his country still wants a diplomatic solution.

Qatar is helping communicate between the two sides.

The mediators may meet both American and Iranian officials as soon as Monday.

Trump also said a large amount of oil moved through the Strait of Hormuz.

A US defence official said 22 million barrels passed through on Friday night.
