Haryana Colleges Face Severe Leadership and Faculty Shortages
In Haryana, India, many government colleges are having a hard time because they don't have enough leaders and teachers.
About 40% of the 185 government colleges don't have regular principals, which means someone temporary is in charge.
There are also a lot of empty teaching jobs.
Out of 8,137 assistant professor positions, only 3,235 are filled.
The worst shortages are in subjects like English, Geography, and Commerce.
The government is trying to fix this by hiring more teachers and promoting current teachers to become principals.
They have already filled some jobs and are working on the rest.
40% of Haryana's 185 government colleges lack regular principals, with 75 colleges currently without permanent leadership.
There are 4,902 vacant assistant professor positions out of 8,137 sanctioned posts, leaving only 3,235 filled.
The most severe shortages are in subjects like English (792 vacant posts), Geography (508), and Commerce (486).
The government is addressing the issue by recruiting 2,424 assistant professors through the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC), with 416 posts already filled.
Additionally, 1,971 extension lecturers and 45 guest lecturers are working temporarily to cover the shortages.
