India’s PNGRB and EESL Partner on Smart PNG Meters
PNGRB and EESL are working together to introduce smarter gas meters in Indian homes.
These meters measure piped natural gas use digitally.
They may help customers receive more accurate bills and view their usage information.
The meters can also warn about tampering, leaks or unusual gas use.
Some systems may allow gas networks to be monitored and operated from a distance.
Cybersecurity protections are intended to keep the connected systems and data safer.
PNGRB will help create rules and standards for the programme.
EESL will help assess, buy and deploy the technology.
PNGRB and EESL signed an MoU to support large-scale deployment of smart domestic PNG meters in India.
The meters are expected to provide digital monitoring, tamper alerts, leak detection, remote operations and cybersecurity safeguards.
PNGRB will provide regulatory guidance, standardisation, conformity assessment, certification and stakeholder coordination.
EESL will support demand aggregation, technology assessment, procurement strategies and implementation.
PNGRB has authorised 307 geographical areas and more than 33,500 kilometres of natural gas pipelines, of which about 25,000 kilometres are operational.
