India Launches Nationwide Real-Time Portal for Organ Transplants
India has started a new online system that keeps track of people who need organ transplants.
Hospitals can add patients to a national list, and the system shows where organs are available.
It also helps match donors who can give organs to people who need them.
The portal lets people promise to donate their organs using their Aadhaar ID.
The system will make it easier for doctors and governments to share organs quickly and fairly.
NOTTO has launched a real‑time portal and app to create a unified waiting list for organ transplants across India.
The portal lets hospitals, state health departments and NOTTO register patients, update organ allocation, and record transplant outcomes in real time.
It will enable national matching of swap donors and provide a mechanism for Aadhaar‑linked organ pledges.
Allocation rules give priority to the hospital where the donation occurs, then to state, regional and national pools, but states may still use their own scoring methods.
All portal modules are live, with remaining features expected to go online within two months.
