India Becomes Net Steel Exporter After Two Years
India is now exporting more steel than it imports, which is a change from the last two years.
This happened because India made it more expensive to import steel.
The government put extra taxes on imported steel, and they also made sure that the steel coming into the country met certain quality standards.
This made Indian steel cheaper than imported steel.
Because of this, fewer imports came in and more exports went out.
India became a net steel exporter for April-July, reversing a two-year trend.
Steel imports dropped 40% year-on-year during the same period.
Exports increased 8% year-on-year, driven by a drop in imports.
Quality control measures and safeguard duties contributed to the import decline.
India imposed a 12% safeguard duty on steel imports in May.
