OCI Card Rules Updated for Overseas Citizens
The Indian government has updated the rules for Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) applying for OCI cards within India.
The key change is that a Registration Certificate or Residency Permit is no longer required.
Instead, applicants need a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity and a valid visa with at least 3 months of validity.
The application process is straightforward and begins online.
Applicants must submit their documents physically at the concerned FRRO office.
After verification, they can pay and download their e-OCI Card.
Existing OCI cardholders can also obtain their e-OCI Card digitally without needing a fresh application or physical verification.
The e-OCI Card is the only format available, and no physical OCI booklet will be issued.
