Pune's Coldest December Half in Decade Eases
Pune has had its coldest start to December in ten years.
The city saw very low temperatures at night, with some nights as cold as 7.9°C.
This happened because of strong winds from the north and clear skies, which made the nights much colder.
The weather experts say this is due to special weather patterns that brought cold and dry air to the region.
In the past, Pune had fewer nights this cold, with only a few single-digit temperature nights in recent years.
This year, there have been seven such nights in just one week.
Now, the cold spell is starting to ease, and the temperatures are expected to rise.
Pune recorded its coldest first half of December in a decade with a mean minimum temperature of 10.66°C from Dec 1-15.
The city experienced seven single-digit minimum temperature nights from Dec 9-15, with the lowest being 7.9°C on Dec 11.
Persistent northerly and northwesterly winds, clear night skies, and low humidity levels contributed to the unusually cold temperatures.
This is the first time in a decade that Pune has recorded below 10°C nights in the first half of December.
Night temperatures are now on an upward trend, signaling the end of the harshest phase of winter for the region.
